CHRISTMAS SUNDAY WORSHIP

Today was a good day of fellowship, study, and worship at Canton First United Methodist Church. Our Pathfinders Class had great fellowship, along with good coffee and cinnamon rolls. Our theme for this winter is “Commitment.”

This week we looked at the passage in Luke 2 when the angel announced, “Good news of great joy which will be for all the people; for today in the city of David there has been born for you a Savior, who is Christ the Lord.” We commented about the meaning and import of these three tittles for Jesus.

We noted the angel was joined by a heavenly host that proclaimed, "Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace among men with whom He is pleased." It was pointed out how this praise joined heaven and earth, God and humanity, glory and peace. Jesus is the One who brings it all together.

For hundreds of years the coming Messiah had been foretold. God keeps all His promises, even in surprising, unexpected, and creative ways. The last three weeks in the first two chapters of Luke our class has seen how God brought two special babies, John and Jesus, into the world by aged parents and an unwed virgin couple, respectively. Surely we can join with the hymnist who wrote, “Great is Thy Faithfulness.”

Corporate worship in the sanctuary featured our chancel choir wonderfully singing the morning message with beautiful selections. Earlier in the service the Advent wreath was lighted. Another highlight was the baptism of two infants.

The pastor charged the congregation to proclaim the good news and live according to the example of Christ, with God's help, so as to surround these children with God's love and forgiveness, that they may grow in the nurture and admonition of the Lord, and some day make their own profession of faith in Christ.
