Over the last few days Cissy and I have been to five Christmas programs. There are a couple more I would like to have seen, but there were time and energy limits.
Friday night we went to the Christmas concert by the choir of Roswell United Methodist Church. It is incredible that they present this program three times over the weekend, with almost a full house at early program. The circular design in the sanctuary seats about 2200 people. The gigantic pipe organ, concert piano, and hand bells complemented the large choir. The worship arts director, Dr. Michael O’Neal, draws a worshipful and elegant sound from his musicians.
On Saturday afternoon Cissy took her two year old granddaughter Ansley to see “The Nutcracker.” The show was held at the Historic Canton Theater and performed by The Academy of Dance Arts, whose director is Christi Hinkley.
We attended the Christmas concert of the Cherokee Community Chorale on Sunday afternoon at our church,Canton First United Methodist. Dr. Don Stafford directed the Chorale through “Magnificat” by Bach. Another section had beautiful arrangements of Christmas carols. In between were some selections by the Sequoyah High School Choir.
Early Sunday evening we went to the children’s Christmas play at New Hope Baptist Church. Cissy’s son Walker and family attend the church. After seeing their sons Will and Aaron participate as shepherds, we were treated to a delicious covered dish meal in the fellowship hall.
On Monday morning I went to Roswell Presbyterian Preschool to attend the Christmas program of three year old granddaughter Merrily. Watching the parents video record the program is almost as interesting as the kids singing. When Merrily marched on the stage, she had an obscure position third from the right. She found it hard to wave and blow kisses to her fans, so she moved over to far right.
The photos below show the programs in the order listed above.
