90th BIRTHDAY

Friday night Cissy and I attended the 90th birthday party for Mr. Will Hattendorf. He is the father of Delia Fine, one of Cissy’s friends since school days. A number of family members flew in from various parts of the country.

Each guest got a nametag that had a photo of Mr. Hattendorf with the caption “Will’s Friend.” Heavy hors d’oeuvres and a wide selection of drinks stimulated the approximately 60 guests to mix and mingle around the host couple’s home.

After everyone had a chance to eat, Mr. Hattendorf’s two children, Bill and Delia, gave glowing tributes to their father. Other friends presented a scripted skit that shared some of the highlights of his sojourn.

Husband, father, wartime aviator, golfer, businessman, and gentleman were words used often to describe this man.

It is a treat for me to greet Mr. Hattendorf every Sunday when I attend worship service. I appreciate his kind words, friendly handshake, gleaming eyes, and strong gait. He is the picture of great health in body, mind, and spirit.
