It is nice to have a day to rest and relax. Hmmm … I believe God had that idea first and passed it on to us.
This morning at church I taught our bible study class. The international Sunday School lesson text was Proverbs 11:1-14. Each proverb contained nuggets of wisdom.
An example is verse one with the phrase, “a just weight is His delight.” The idea is to be accurate and honest in business transactions.
Simply put, when we act fairly and justly with others, God gets delight. So often our thoughts on Sunday morning are pleasing God by attending a worship service and giving God praise. And certainly God gets pleasure in our worship.
But we can give God delight in our every day life when we treat others in a “righteous” way as other verses in Proverbs 11 explain. Righteousness extends to even how we talk about others, including the dangers of gossip and slander.
Such a simple serendipity understanding about delighting God in every day life while attending bible study at church!
Today after worship service, Cissy attended two receptions for teacher friends who are retiring. Together we went to the Arts Festival in downtown Canton. Later we got some ice cream with some friends from Big Canoe who had stopped in town.
After supper, as we often do, Cissy and I went for a walk on the golf course behind our home. As we strolled I remembered an encounter I had a few months ago at the golf course about the same time of day.
I was clearing brush on our property when I keep hearing a “whoosh” sound. I looked up in the sky and saw some hot air balloons firing their flame burners. I ran to get my camera and recorded what happened next.
The astonished golfers on the course had their play interrupted as the balloons landed right on the fairways and greens. Unlike some golfers, they did avoid the sand traps.
When we got home tonight Cissy reminded me to keep our commitment to have some focused time together in devotional thought and conversation (a practice I mentioned in posting “Moonlight or Mayhem” several days ago). In those precious moments we learned more about each other and God.
