SOLDIER FAREWELL

This morning I attended a Send-Off Ceremony for the Bravo Troop 1st Squadron, 108th Cavalry, stationed at our local National Guard Armory. Tomorrow they will deploy for one year service in Afghanistan.

Liberty Hill UMC organized the event that was held at First Baptist of Canton and emceed by Ken Cook, a TV meteorologist. Local pastors and area mayors, chairman of the county commissioners, a state senator, and our U.S. congressman spoke. Letters were read from our U.S. senators. A beautifully framed letter from former President George W. Bush was also read. A father of one of the soldiers read a poem. The Cherokee High School band played several beautiful selections. A local pastor, who is also deploying with the squadron as their Chaplain, closed in prayer.

After the ceremony it was a moving sight to see the soldiers with their families, as they prepared to bid them good-bye for a year.
