DEACON DARLINGS

The Wake Forest Demon Deacon basketball team looks good!

On Wednesday night #2 nationally ranked Wake Forest beat Boston College 83-63, following the Deacons impressive defeat of North Carolina last Saturday. The twice-beaten UNC, the pre-season #1 team that some thought might win the national championship unbeaten, is now tied for 10th place in standings in the ACC!

Wake Forest (15-0, 2-0 Atlantic Coast Conference) tied the best start in school history, matching a record set 82 years ago by the 1926-27 team. In addition to Jeff Teague (photo) leading the team in scoring with a 20+ point average, on the roster are two players at 6’9”, two at 6’11” and two at 7 feet. To say the least the Deacons are tall and versatile.

Wake Forest travels to unbeaten #9 ranked Clemson on Saturday for a 3:30 p.m. game. It will be carried live on ABC-TV.

Since the Deacon squad is so young with 8 freshmen and sophomores, I have sort held my breath until now about the prospects for a sizzling season. After watching them again tonight, I feel confident this team is going to make all us Wake Forest alumni mighty proud throughout the season.
