MEMORIAL DAY

Sunday morning worship at church highlighted Memorial Day as we remembered those who have given their lives in the service of the United States Armed Forces.

The choir presented a number of patriotic songs. The video screens showed the photos of members of our church family who have served, or are currently serving, in the Armed Forces.

During the choral salute to the Armed Forces, those who had served in each branch came forward to stand across the front as their branch’s song was sung.

I sensed the congregation felt as me, very stirred emotionally, as we thanked these service people with a standing ovation for their great service to our country to protect and preserve the great liberties we enjoy under God.

Just as we remembered those who sacrificed their life, we also celebrated new life. Part of the worship service was the baptism of an infant.

At the conclusion of worship we had the opportunity to participate in the “Prayers & Squares” ministry of our church. The purpose of this ministry is to promote prayer through the use of quilts.

You could kneel at the prayer altar and pray over each quilt, and tie a double knot in one of the sets of untied threads. The completed quilt is given to a person who is undergoing a very difficult time in their life. This Sunday there was a new section of quilts to give to men and women serving in the military.
