Last Friday my wife Cissy and I travelled to Hickory, NC to visit my brother Kim, his wife Betsy, and son, Jackson. En route it started snowing and continued snowing until late that night. Saturday morning we had a fun time playing in the snow.
Cissy and I take turns each year to decide how we will celebrate Valentine’s Day. This year it was my turn to plan the celebration. Months ago I made reservations for last Saturday night at the Zevely Inn, an historic, cozy bed and breakfast inn, at Old Salem in Winston-Salem NC. I reserved their most expensive room. We dined across the street at the Old Salem Tavern. Sunday morning for Valentines Day we awoke in our room to a blazing fire in the fireplace and went downstairs to eat a fine brunch. How romantic!
However, I carefully added another part to our celebration on Saturday night. It just so happened (wink wink!) that the Georgia Tech basketball team was in Winston-Salem to play my Wake Forest Demon Deacons. So, we took in a great game also. Go Deacs!
On Sunday afternoon we were in Charleston SC to visit my sister Lydia and her husband Buz plus their offspring. Monday afternoon Cissy and I were on the beach in Florida for a few days. We will return home by Thursday afternoon so I can serve as a spiritual director on a Walk to Emmaus this weekend.
